    Well I HAVE changed my map files and increased the draw/fog distances.

    But I don't have an issue on the other main FH2 server

    We don't cotton to no damn cheaters here; make no nevermind, no way, no how.

    Urh, seriously. Don't modify any files directly. You can use the features in the game Options to modify visual and audio characteristics which is a perfectly valid way to make modifications to the game environment. The new FH2 Launcher makes it all very easy.

    I've always taken issue with the HORRENDOUS FOG AND DRAW DISTANCES in FH2 maps, given it's running on a game engine that any PC game made in the last half century can eat for breakfast. Maps with doubled or tripled fog ranges are amazing. Vanilla maps are just brain hurtingly stupid, ESPECIALLY for flying planes in. Really don't know why they insist on having fog set like it's 2005, it really hurts the look and feel of the games. Given the use of ironsights and the scatter from weapons, long range of sight doesn't = headshots at 1km, It's hard enough to pot someone at 200m! MGs actually serve a purpose at range, where number of bullets makes up for inaccuracy.

    I did point this out on one of the random pub servers and get abused, but not banned, for "cheating". Somehow I think I could enable wallhax but with a ping of 400 it wouldn't help

    Playing the desert maps and actually being able to have long range tank engagements is fantastic. The scale of the game feels great on some of the big maps when fog is reduced.

    You might be missing the point -- that you cannot hack your game to unfair advantage over others, regardless of your personal opinion of how the game should look or play. Use the in-game distance tool and other settings like everyone else. You can use sweetfx or other external graphics application to make the game look all new and saturated but changing view distance has always been a hack, and usually handled by bans in any FPS community.

    Indeed. While I agree the fog distance is often too short that is no reason to hack to gain an unfair advantage over everyone else.

    You should probably stop before the fury of the ban hammer is unleashed upon you.

    It's pretty funny that it's so easy to tweak the map files like that and play online without anyone being the wiser, unless you're naive enough to talk about it on a web forum that is I wouldn't dream about having TEH HAXORZ modified map files for a WaW campaign, anyone who has ever played with me knows that I rate having a laugh HIGHLY over any coherent sort of skill or desire to succeed in shooting the baddies.

    It's pretty sad that people take it so seriously for pubbie play, especially in a community that is scrounging for player numbers as it is. Aimbots letting you headshot 20 other players within 3 seconds from across the map I can understand ruining the game for others, having an increased view distance so the game doesn't look like a PS2 title... not so much. But as I said, only some naive idiot would blab about such a "harmless" tweak to the community

    I recall one of the desert maps we played last FH2 campaign, the fog was only 300m away and was a thick horrible poo coloured terribleness. AND the map had planes on it. I don't see the point of such a map existing, why not simply increase the distances between flags and reduce the horrible looking and playing fog?

    This makes me sad.

    The twisted logic seems to be that in a small community, we should allow cheating in order to get more people into the community. I think given that people generally don't want to play a game where cheaters use skill enhancement, then the size of the community would get smaller, not larger.

    Must be a naive idiot that would consider the advantage of having a higher visible range over the opponent to be a "harmless" tweak.

    As Adrifter suggested to you PlasmaDavid, it is best not to explain yourself any further. It's especially important not to post ways of cheating. That includes, but is not limited to, glitching, bug exploitation, code modification, aim bots, speed hacks, or wall hacks. If you do see a problem with the game or site which could be interpreted as a cheat, then please contact a WaW admin or contact FH2 directly. None of these things should ever be posted in these public forums.

    The determination of a cheat would be that considered a cheat to a reasonable, well informed person, experienced and knowledgeable in the game. For instance, modifying the FH2 game files to get a greater effective view distance than with the unmodified files is clearly a cheat to a person informed in the game. To this point, anyone who posted a response to this point in the thread is more than adequately qualified to make the judgment. This is not to address the validity of your method, however.

    Who says we condone cheating? Sure, we have had some incidents in the past, but that doesn't mean we pretend it's not there. We have rules regarding cheating and the such, most of them ban-worthy.

    Don't go saying we allow cheating, that just makes us look bad.

    Well on a happier (non-cheating) note, that was an AWESOME game night Saturday! Got nearly as many as we had Thursday for a high for the night(and by around midnight+ Eastern time too! FH2 Thursday has long broken up by then usually). A few of us tried to get the server going on Friday but it just wasn't happening. The good nights seem to be Thursday and Saturday to really get it occupied and going.

    On a side note: One of the most EPIC rounds of Omaha so far on that map; or at least I'm sure the Allies thought so. Started with the typical beach slaughter of the allies then they slowly slogged through and got one, then two, then all three of those first three flags and they went 'sector uncap'. they then got the next couple flags (vierville and whatever that other one is) fairly quickly. Then finally Church went and they capped us out and won with 12 (yes twelve; making us Germans sad Pandas...so close...) tickets left.

    EDIT: We should probably start an FH2 Saturday thread over at the main http://fhpubforum.warumdarum.de/index.php FH2 forums to add to that FH2 Thursdays one that's been there forever to get this to be a REGULAR thing from here on out. I'll start one next Friday night/ Saturday morning to promote it if no one else has by then(and if I remember ;-)

    Yeah, Anthrax. Saturday was a good one; like Thursday. That was a great round of Omaha on Saturday. We (German) held them off for a long time, but it was great to see the Allies comeback.

    I see peoples' award ranks are showing up in the in-game player list, so I think that means it is communicating... at least to a point. I do recall on opening day, those award ranks did not show up. Maybe it's OK now since the in-game ranks are showing. We will see.

    Unfortunately, the two new maps (Gold Beach and Omaha Beach) did not show up in the Awards stats. All other maps we played, (with at least 12 players), showed up. For example, you can see about a two hour gap between Pointe Du Hoc 32 with 27 people and St Vith 64 with 38 people. During that period, we played Gold Beach and Omaha Beach.

    There is work on preparing for the next campaign but it has been slow since the FH2.46 release. Part of it is that there is stuff we have to do to get things working with the update.

    Get on the server guys! We got like 30 last Saturday and it was a crowd that stayed pretty late too! No school or work the next morning so perfect night for playing way into the night!

    Would that be OUR server or that one that is always populated? I make sure to get on TS these days whenever I'm in FH2, but I've not had anyone else on at the same time yet.

    I'm still having PB issues, apparently it's to do with the Steam overlay?

    Also shame on WaW players who are in a server but won't get on TS

    EDIT Sooooooo running the PB updater hasn't helped, still getting kicked. Closed Steam as well. Any other ideas?

    EDIT EDIT Oh I didn't run the PB thing properly the first time, seems to be fixed now!

    Just a day of my report to them, FH2 fixed the problem with Awards not tracking the new maps. Thank you FH2 Dev team!
